Common questions

What if the old bulb has no code on it?

Pick “Something else” in the finder and tell the base apart by its look (see Light Bulb Base Types), or check the bulb's box if you still have it.

What do I need from the old bulb?

Its base and shape codes, such as A19 E26, its brightness (lumens, or the watts on an old incandescent), and its light color in kelvin. Take the old bulb, or a photo of its label, to the store to match all of them.

Can I use an LED with a timer or motion sensor?

Check the box first: some LEDs are marked not compatible with timers, photocells or motion sensors.
