What Bulb For

What bulb does a chandelier take?

Candle bulbs, the B10, B11, BA10, CA10 and CA11 shapes, are typically used in chandeliers and sconces. They’re about 1-1/4" to 1-3/8" across. Feit, GE and Westinghouse sell candle shapes on the small E12 candelabra base and on the standard E26, so read the old bulb’s base first.

The candle shapes

GE describes B and C bulbs as having a tip like a candle flame. The letters are the candle style and the number the width in eighths of an inch. Boxes also name the tip.

Candle shapes, the names makers give them, and one length for each
CodeAcrossNamedLength
B101-1/4"Torpedo or blunt tip (Feit)3.8"
B111-3/8"Torpedo (Feit, Westinghouse)3.90"
BA101-1/4"Flame tip (Feit)4.3"
CA101-1/4"Flame tip (Feit, Westinghouse)4.00"

Which way the sockets face

Feit sells its candle LEDs in flame tip, torpedo and bent tip styles. It suggests a straight tip for sockets that point down or sideways, and a bent tip for sockets that point up.

E12 or E26

The same candle shapes come on both bases. Feit makes its B10 torpedo on E26 as well as E12, GE sells B11 and CA11 LEDs on candelabra and medium bases, and Westinghouse lists its B11 and CA11 filament LEDs on both. Base details are on E12 candelabra bulbs.
