Your answer

What bulb goes in a bathroom exhaust fan light?

Use the bulb and the most watts the fan’s label or manual gives, because fans differ widely. Broan’s 765H80L takes an A19 LED up to 14 watts, while its 750 takes a bulb up to 100 watts.

What’s in the fan’s light?

With the power off, take the grille or lens down to see the bulb.

What fits

A screw-in bulb within the fan’s watts

Broan’s 750 takes an A19 up to 100 watts, and its 765H80L only an A19 LED up to 14 watts.

More watts than a fan allows may overheat the fixture.

Getting to the bulb

Broan says to disconnect the power and lock out the service panel before relamping. On the 750, pull the grille away from the ceiling, squeeze its two mounting springs together and take it off. On the QT130LE, pry the lens out with a small flat-blade screwdriver between the grille and lens. On the 765H80L, press in the sides of the lens and pull it down.

Changing the bulb stops at the grille or lens. Wiring and the fan housing are work for an electrician.

Behind a closed lens

If the lens closes around the bulb, choose an LED without the “not for use in totally enclosed fixtures” warning, or one rated for enclosed fixtures. A closed lens holds in heat, and heat shortens an LED’s life. Broan lists the QT130LE’s own GU24 LED as suitable for enclosures.

Common questions

Can I put a brighter bulb in my bathroom fan light?

Stay within the most watts the fan's label or manual allows. For more light, compare the lumens on the box, not the watts.
