GU24 bulbs: the twist-lock pin base

A GU24 bulb has two pins that push into the socket and twist to lock, on everyday shapes such as the A19. It doesn’t fit a screw socket, so match the base on the old bulb.

What it looks like

There’s no screw thread, just two pins on the end of the base. GE calls it “2-Pin Turn-and-Lock (GU24)”. The glass above it can look like any household bulb, so the base is the part to check.

A GU24 bulb and an E26 bulb don’t swap: if the base doesn’t match the socket, the bulb won’t work. Feit sells the same 8.8 watt A19 LED in both versions, the OM60DM/927CA/4 on E26 and the OM60DM/927CA/GU24/4 on GU24, so read the base on the box as well as the shape.

Where it’s used

Feit lists its 8.8 watt GU24 A19 for ceiling fixtures, ceiling fans, table lamps and outdoor lighting. It’s rated for damp locations, so outdoors that means a covered spot, not one open to rain. Feit’s GU24 puck light is made for under cabinets and other tight spaces.

Some bath fan lights use GU24 too: Broan-NuTone’s QT130LE takes 10 watt GU24 LEDs. See bathroom fan light bulbs.

The Feit GU24 LEDs above are dimmable, and its GU24 CFLs aren’t. Feit lists all five as damp rated and rated for enclosed fixtures. Westinghouse lists its 9.8 watt A19 for totally enclosed fixtures but not its 8 watt R30.

What it’s confused with

Switch the light off and let the bulb cool before you twist it out.

Common questions

Can I put a regular screw-in bulb in a GU24 fixture?

No. A GU24 socket takes GU24 bulbs only. For the look of an ordinary bulb, GU24 LEDs come in the A19 shape, such as Feit's 800 lumen OM60DM/927CA/GU24/4.
