E17 is the intermediate screw base, between the small E12 candelabra and the standard E26. Feit’s and GE’s microwave and refrigerator bulbs use it, and so do some ceiling fan bulbs.
What it looks like
A screw base, narrower than a household bulb’s and wider than a chandelier bulb’s. Specs may call it intermediate rather than E17, as GE’s do with “Intermediate Base”.
Where it’s used
- Microwaves and refrigerators. Feit lists its 40 watt T8 microwave bulb for microwaves, refrigerators, lighted cabinets and salt lamps, and its 40 watt T6-1/2 for refrigerators, exit signs and signal lights. GE’s E17 LEDs are sold as appliance and microwave bulbs. See appliance bulbs.
- Range hoods. Feit lists its 40 watt T7 on E17 for range hoods: see range hood bulbs.
- Ceiling fans and lamps. Feit’s A15 E17 LED is listed for ceiling fans, and its S11 LED for table lamps, appliances and signs.
- C9 Christmas lights. Holiday Living’s clear C9 set uses E17 bulbs: see C7 vs C9 bulbs.

The T7, S11 and T8 LEDs above, from Feit and GE, are marked not dimmable, while Feit’s two incandescents are dimmable. Feit says its R14 LED suits enclosed fixtures and outdoor use.
What it’s confused with
- E12. The candelabra base, smaller again, on candle bulbs and night lights.
- E26. The standard household screw base, bigger than E17. Some appliance bulbs use it instead.
Unplug the appliance, or switch the fixture off, and let the bulb cool before you unscrew it.
