Range hoods use several kinds of bulb, so match the old one and stay within the watts on the hood’s label or in its manual. Broan’s 403602 and economy hoods take an A19 bulb up to 75 watts, and some GE hoods take GU10, PAR20 or G4 halogens.

Turn the hood off, switch off its power at the fuse or breaker, and let the bulb cool before you take it out.
Watts
On GE’s halogen hoods, a label near the lamp gives the bulb’s voltage and watts, and GE warns that going over them can cause bulb or fuse failures.
Halogen bulbs
Handle a new halogen with clean gloves or a cloth. GE says oil from bare skin makes these bulbs fail early. Some pull straight out, such as GE’s G4 bulbs. Others push up and turn counterclockwise, such as its GU10s.
Getting the lens off
On Broan’s 40000 series hoods, squeeze the plastic lens to take it off, and put it back once the new bulb is in.
